When I do covers sometimes I focus on tying into the narrative of the story and sometimes I just want to draw something cool. Both goals are the same of course, I want to bring eyeballs to the cover.

When I started sketching the cover I had no idea what I was going to do. I weaseled out of using an original idea and started looking at some 1980s movie covers for inspiration. I wanted something sexy and iconic like Barbarian Queen or I Spit On Your Grave. After a little digging, I found it. Slumber Party Massacre.

Parodying this movie poster was perfect. The original movie had a great layout and it featured four girls. The Chicas story is about four girls and of course there’s always a bad guy I can throw in.

This was especially fun for me because I am a child of the 80s and loved all the B and otherwise shitty movies that came from that era. So it was nice giving props to a B movie horror classic.
